When looking for an outing during the day, The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) is the preeminent center for the research and study of Southern decorative arts and material culture. MESDA is home to the most comprehensive collection of southern decorative arts and related research the frontline of hotels and restaurants. We’re grateful for those who have a heart for hospitality. They are truly a gift to us as we travel by keeping the best historic hotels and restaurants of Winston-Salem, NC open. Actually, one of our favorite stops has been the Adagio Vinyards, a unique winery where guests can experience fine wine, music and explore the process of creating hand made violins, a true artisan process.

The Charlotte and Philip Hanes Art Gallery is focused on presenting challenging and engaging artwork; mostly contemporary, but sometimes focused on historical works or selections from the breadth of Wake Forest University’s collections. As one of America’s most comprehensive history attractions, our museums—the Historic Town of Salem, the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), and the Gardens at Old Salem—engage visitors in an educational and memorable historical experience.
Touring is also a delight by the restaurants we’re so blessed to be able to experience. Winston-Salem is known for its most popular historical eateries. One example is called Bernadin’s Restaurant. Chamber concerts are the lifeblood of orchestral music and the passion of chamber musicians to perform and play for venues like the Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance. Some of the best chamber music in Winston-Salem takes place with the Camel City Jazz Orchestra and the historic Camel City Playhouse.
